एमएस धोनी का पूरा नाम महेंद्र सिंह धोनी है। धोनी का जन्म 7 जुलाई 1981 को झारखंड के रांची में हुआ था। धोनी को लोग कई नामों से बुलाते है,जैसे माही,एमएसडी, कैप्टन कूल, थाला। धोनी एक मध्यम वर्गीय परिवार से आते है। धोनी के पिता श्री पान सिंह मेकोन कंपनी के जूनियर मैनेजमेंट वर्ग में काम करते थे। रांची में धोनी के परिवार को एक सरकारी मकान रहने के लिए मिला था। धोनी की माता गृहिणी थी। धोनी की एक बहेन भी है जिसका नाम जयंती है। और एक भाई भी हैं जिसका नाम नरेंद्र है। धोनी का बड़ा भाई राजनीति में और बहन जयंती गुप्ता एक सिक्षिका है। धोनी ए वी जवाहर विद्यालय मंदिर , श्यामली में पढ़ते थे। धोनी को बैडमिंटन और फुटबॉल में काफी रुचि थी। इंटर स्कूल प्रतियोगिता में धोनी इं खेलो में स्कूल का प्रतिनिधित्व कर चुके है। धोनी अपनी टीम के गोलकीपर रहा चुके है।
- क्रिकेट करियर की शुरुआत
धोनी को क्रिकेट में बिल्कुल भी रुचि नहीं थीं। धोनी को उनकी विकेट कीपिंग शैली को देखकर उनके कोच ने क्रिकेट खेलने के लिए समझाया। धोनी ने उस से पहले कभी क्रिकेट नहीं खेला था। अपनी विकेट कीपिंग से धोनी ने सबको प्रभावित किया और कमांडो क्रिकेट क्लब में नियमित विकेट कीपर बने। धोनी एक आक्रामक बल्लेबाज है। धोनी को ज्यादातर बैकफुट में खेलने लिए और मजबूत बॉटम हैंड ग्रीप होने की वजह से जाना जाता है। धोनी को 1998-99 में बिहार अंडर 19 में शामिल किया। धोनी ने यहां 5 मैचों में कुल 176 रन बनाए पर टीम 6 के ग्रुप में 4 स्थान पर आईं थी। इस लिए क्वार्टर फाइनल में नहीं पहुंच पाई। बिहार कदर 19 की टीम 1999-2000 के फाइनल में पहुंची। यहां धोनी ने बिहार के लिए 84रन बनाए और टीम का टोटल स्कोर 357 रन था। जब की पंजाब अंडर 19 का कुल स्कोर 831 रन था। जिसमें युवराज सिंह ने 358 रन बनाए। युवराज ने बिहार टीम के टोटल स्कोर से एक रन ज्यादा बनाया। युवराज के आगे धोनी का स्कोर नाकाम रहा। धोनी ने 9 मैचों में 12 पारियों में कुल 5 अर्धशतक , 17 कैचस और 7 स्टंपिंग की। 1999-2000 सीज़न से बिहार के लिए रणजी ट्रॉफी खेलना सुरु किया यहां दूसरी पारी में धोनी ने नाबाद 68 रन बनाए। धोनी ने 2000-2001 के सीजन में बंगाल के खिलाफ अपना पहला प्रथम श्रेणी शतक लगाया। 2003-04 सीजन में असम के खिलाफ रणजी ट्रॉफी के पहले एक दिवसीय ट्रॉफी में धोनी ने नाबाद 128 रन बनाए। उस साल की देवघर ट्रॉफी में उन्होंने 4 मैचों में कुल 244 रन बनाए। दिलीप ट्रॉफी के फाइनल में धोनी को दीप दास गुप्ता की जगह ईस्ट जोन का कप्तान बनाया गया। उस मैच में एक आक्रामक अर्धशतक लगाया।
- भारतीय टीम में धोनी का चयन
2003 -04 के सीजन में धोनी का चयन भारत ए टीम में हुआ। जहां जिम्बाब्वे व केन्या के खिलाफ उनको मैच खेलने थी। हरारे स्पोर्ट्स क्लब में जिम्बाब्वे इलेवन के खिलाफ धोनी ने ने 7 कैच और 4 स्टंपिंग की और अपनी विकेट कीपिंग का हुनर दिखाया।
इस सीरिज में दूसरो के बीच धोनी के प्रदर्शन पर उस समय के भारतीय टीम के कप्तान सौरव गांगुली का ध्यान गया। भारत ए टीम के कोच संदीप मधुसूदन पाटिल ने विकेट कीपिंग और बल्लेबाज के रूप में भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम में जगह के लिए धोनी कि सिफारिश की।
2004 में भारतीय क्रिकेट टीम ने बांग्लादेश का दौरा किया। उस दौरे पर धोनी का भारतीय टीम में चयन हुआ।
वन डे करियर की शुरुआतधोनी की एक दिवसीय क्रिकेट की शुरुआत कुछ खास नहीं रही। अपने पहले ही मैच में बिना रन बनाए आउट हो गए। बांग्लादेश के खिलाफ धोनी के खिलाफ धोनी का प्रदर्शन कुछ खास नहीं रहा उसके बावजूद धोनी को पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ वन डे टीम के लिए चुना गया। पाकिस्तान के खिलाफ वन डे मैच में को विशाखापत्तनम में हुआ था उस मैच में धोनी ने 123 गेंदों में 148 रनों की शानदार पारी खेली थी। 2007 वन डे world cup में बुरी तरह हारा।
साल 2011 के वर्ल्ड कप में भारत ने एमएस धोनी की कप्तानी में पहले मुकाबले में बांग्लादेश को हराकर टूर्नामेंट की शानदार की। ग्रुप स्टेज में नीदरलैंड,आयरलैंड और वेस्ट इंडीज के खिलाफ जीत हासिल की। लेकिन साउथ अफ्रीका के खिलाफ हार का सामना करना पड़ा और इंग्लैंड के सामने मैच ड्रॉ रहा। भारत ने पाकिस्तान को सेमी फाइनल में हराकर फाइनल में पहुंची भारत कि जहां सामना था श्री लंका से। फिना मुकाबले में धोनी ने नाबाद 92* रन बनाए और आखरी गेंद पर सिक्स लगा कर भारत को 28 साल बाद वर्ल्ड चैंपियन बनाया।
- कप्तानी छोड़ी
जनवरी 2017 में वन डे और टी20 आई से कप्तानी छोड़ी। इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ घर पर ODI सीरिज के दूसरे मुकाबले में धोनी ने 122 गेंदों में 134 रन बनाए। जिसमें युवराज सिंह के साथ 256 रन की साझेदारी की थी।
8 फरवरी 2018 को धोनी ODI क्रिकेट में 400 शिकार करने वाले पहले भारतीय विकेट कीपर बन गए।
2018 एशिया कप में धोनी के खराब प्रदर्शन के चलते उनको वेस्ट इंडीज और ऑस्ट्रेलिया के खिलाफ 3 ट्वेंटी ट्वेंटी मैचों के लिए बाहर किया गया।
- टेस्ट करियर
श्री लंका के खिलाफ 2005 में दिनेश कार्तिक की जगह धोनी को भारतीय टेस्ट टीम में शामिल किया गया। धोनी ने अपने पहले मैच में 30 रन बनाए मगर बारिश ने खेल में खलल डाली।
भारत ने जनवरी -फरवरी 2006 में पाकिस्तान का दौरा किया और धोनी ने फैसलाबाद में दूसरे टेस्ट में अपनी पहली शतकीय पारी खेली। टीम को 107 रनों की जरूरत थी ताकि फॉलोऑन से बचसके। धोनी ने अपनी 34 गेंद में ही 50 रन बनाए और उसके बाद 93 गेंदों में अपना पहला टेस्ट शतक बनाया।
- टी20 करियर
धोनी भारत के पहले ट्वेंटी ट्वेंटी इंटरनेशनल मैच का रहे थे। धोनी ने भारत को 2007 में टी20 में वर्ल्ड चैंपियन बनाया। उसके बाद 2014 में टी20 वर्ल्ड कप में भारत श्री लंका से फाइनल में हार का सामना करना पड़ा। उसमें कप्तान धोनी ही थे। 2016 में वेस्ट इंडीज के खिलाफ सेमी फाइनल में भारत हार गया। धोनी ने 18 फरवरी 2018 को रिहा हेंड्रिक्स का कैच पकड़ने के बाद धोनी टी 20 में 134 कैच लेने का वर्ल्ड रिकॉर्ड बनाया। क्रिकेट से संन्यास

Dhoni comes from a middle class family. Dhoni's father Mr. Pan Singh worked in the junior management section of the Mecon Company. Dhoni's family got a government house in Ranchi. Dhoni's mother was a homemaker. Dhoni also has a sister named Jayanti. And there is also a brother named Narendra. Dhoni's elder brother is a politician and sister Jayanthi Gupta is a teacher. Dhoni studied at AV Jawahar Vidyalaya Temple, Shyamali. Dhoni was interested in badminton and football. Dhoni has represented the school in In Khelo in the Inter School Competition. Dhoni has been the goalkeeper of his team.
Start of cricket career
Dhoni was not interested in cricket at all. Seeing his wicket-keeping style, Dhoni was persuaded by his coach to play cricket. Dhoni had never played cricket before that. Dhoni impressed everyone with his wicket-keeping and became a regular wicket-keeper at the Commando Cricket Club. Dhoni is an aggressive batsman. Dhoni is known mostly for playing in the backfoot and for having a strong bottom-hand grip. Dhoni was included in Bihar U-19 in 1998-99. Dhoni scored a total of 176 runs in 5 matches here but the team came 4th in the group of 6. Therefore, they could not reach the quarter-finals. Bihar Kadar 19 team reached the final of 1999-2000. Here Dhoni scored 84 runs for Bihar and the team's total score was 357 runs. While the total score of Punjab Under 19 was 831 runs. In which Yuvraj Singh scored 358 runs. Yuvraj scored one more than the Bihar team's total score. Dhoni's score in front of Yuvraj failed. Dhoni has scored 5 fifties, 17 catches and 7 stumpings in 9 innings in 12 matches. Dhoni's selection in Indian team
In the 2003–04 season, Dhoni was selected in the India A team. Where he had to play matches against Zimbabwe and Kenya. Against Zimbabwe XI at Harare Sports Club, Dhoni made 7 catches and 4 stumpings and showed his wicket-keeping skills.
Dhoni's performance among others in this series got the attention of the then Indian team captain Sourav Ganguly. India A team coach Sandeep Madhusudan Patil recommended Dhoni for wicket-keeping and a place in the Indian cricket team as a batsman.
The Indian cricket team visited Bangladesh in 2004. Dhoni was selected in the Indian team on that tour.
ODI debut: Dhoni's one-day cricket debut was nothing special. He was dismissed in his first match without scoring. Despite Dhoni's performance against Bangladesh against Dhoni was not much, Dhoni was selected for the One Day team against Pakistan. Dhoni was dropped for the 3 Twenty20 matches against the West Indies and Australia due to Dhoni's poor performance in the 2018 Asia Cup.
Test career
In 2005, Dhoni was included in the Indian Test team in place of Dinesh Karthik against Sri Lanka. Dhoni scored 30 runs in his first match but rain disrupted the game.
India toured Pakistan in January-February 2006 and Dhoni played his first century in the second Test in Faisalabad. The team needed 107 runs to survive the follow-on. Dhoni scored 50 runs in his 34 balls and after that he scored his first Test century in 93 balls.
T20 career
Dhoni was in India's first Twenty20 International match. Dhoni made India World Champion in 2007 in T20. He then suffered a final loss to India Sri Lanka in the 2014 T20 World Cup. Captain Dhoni was there. India lost in the semi-finals against the West Indies in 2016. Dhoni set a world record of 134 catches in the T20 after catching Hendrix released on 18 February 2018. Dhoni played his last match in the semi-finals against New Zealand in the World Cup 2019, losing India's match and his dream of winning the World Cup was broken.
